First Spanish Lesson

Today was our first spanish lesson.  We had a delightful young woman who has been a teacher in the language school in Otavalo.  She now runs a small natural food store and gives lessons on the side.  She is so sweet and encouraging.  What makes the lesson even more interesting is she knows about as much english as we know spanish so I guess we are teaching each other.  Thanks to her spanish/english dictionary it works quite well.  The charge for a one hour lesson is $4.  Today we have homework of learning the alphabet, numbers, days of the week, months of the year, as well as greetings and ways to say goodbye.

We had the pleasure of having lunch with a young couple who moved here three years ago from St Louis.  They were teachers, loved to travel, came here, fell in love with  the place and 5 days later bought a condo.  This is now their home base but they still travel  about 3-6 months out of the year.

We are starting to get responses from our emails on possible places to rent so hopefully starting tomorrow we will see some of these places.  We had a great dinner at the inn tonight and watched True Lies on DVD.  Life is good....

  1. Nuestro Padre Celestial. Gracias Por el dia. Porteje mi Abuela y mi Abuelo. Gracias por tu amore. Amen. (what I remember from Spanish. One of us had to open class with a prayer everyday. Translation:

"Dear heavenly Father. Thank you for this day. Protect my Grandma and Grandpa. Thank you for your love. Amen."

See, now you can pray in Spanish! I also remember "donde esta el bano?" translation: where is the bathroom?

:) thinking of you always and Dan and I both enjoy reading your blog everyday!
