We arose today to crystal clear skies and sun all day. It has been cloudy many days since we arrived with brief patches of sun (sounds like Seattle) so today everyone was out enjoying the rich rays. We have ended our first week and the time is passing quickly.
We met three new people today. One lady is from Naples, Florida , has lived here three years. She owns a small restaurant which serves delicious food both Ecuadorian and American. She is also an artist with a studio on the edge of town. She was wanting to know what it was like now in the US because she hadn't been back in awhile. It was a bit surreal describing some of the changes over the last couple of years. We also met a couple from Dallas who are here building a home. They have not moved here permanently yet but are just here for a short time going over some final decisions on the construction.
In the Inn we have had the pleasure of meeting 4 delightful Ecuadorians... We can't emphasize enough how gracious and open they are. Edwardo & Franklin watch over most of the running of the Inn. Consuelo serves in the restaurant and looks over things when the men are gone. She has a great smile and patiently helps us with our Spanish Rosita does most of the cleaning of the rooms. It's interesting they are redecorating (repainting and adding new drapes) to many of the rooms now. Claudia felt honored that they wanted her opinion on choice of fabric for the drapes.
It's interesting that we are now starting to run into people we know on the street. It really does feel like a small town and the people are so much fun. We must go now and study our Spanish homework...need to impress our teacher!

Here is one of the open clothing markets.

Note the contrast as we turn and take a picture the other direction down the street.

Thia seems to be a newer section of Cotacachi as far as stores go.
